Organic Gardening ~ Benefits of Organic Gardening            page #1/2

Organic gardening is harmless for the environment. You engage in it and preserve nature at the same time. You get two great extras: tasty foods and a healthy living habitat. By committing the time and effort required, you will find the rewards to be well worth it.

The benefits of eating fresh, chemical free, live foods, rich in vitamins and minerals are obvious. Some other benefits you may not have considered are the health benefits of exercising, being in the sun and fresh air, being able to go outside and pick what you want for your meal, interacting with other family members in the garden, stress/anxiety release, recycling organic materials ... you get the idea!

In organic gardening, we let nature do most of the work and feed us as it fed our ancestors with delicious food long before pesticides came into use. Now here's a thought.... think about what agricultural chemicals that are so concentrated that they kill insects, weeds and any other perceived threat are doing to our environment. Then image the damage that they might do to our own bodies. Do you really want to expose yourself and your family to those possibilities?

By organic gardening, you help your children grow up healthy. Research reveals that children ingest four to five times more cancer-causing pesticides from food than adults. The need to provide children with healthy food is not a myth, but a scientifically proven fact.

Yes, it takes time.... yes; it takes effort, just like all the other great things in life do. But having a gorgeous organic garden overflowing with flavour-some, healthy produce doesn't feel like a chore to me. Sure some jobs can be tedious or a little hard on the back, but once you have some systems in place your gardening life will be much easier.

Not only do you get good eats devoid of nasty chemicals when you garden organically, but it's a form of relaxation and exercise. Something you can do your whole life. Like any other regular physical activity, gardening can help reduce your risk of heart disease, obesity, high blood pressure, adult-onset diabetes, osteoporosis and stroke.

Organic gardening also rejuvenates the spirit. It's relaxing to feel the sun on your back as you plant, weed or water. Just the feeling of mud wiggling happily between your toes is enough to bring out your inner child. Gardening can connect you to the natural rhythm of the earth and its cycles in a way that nothing else really can.
